In May 2019, it was released that the global efforts to shift towards renewable energy stalled in 2018. This is the first year since 2001 that we did not meet the continued growth as needed, increasing the significance of efforts for the remainder of the year. Knowing that we have seen a global stall, let’s examine some ways that we can begin incorporating renewable energy into our daily lives while helping to become a more sustainable future.

Invest In Energy Efficient Appliances
As a result of our continued advances in technology, appliances can now be energy-efficient. Known as one of the leaders, Energy Star creates appliances used throughout the household that are made with energy in mind, making them less harmful for the environment. According to Energy Star, homes that use their full system report a 10% reduction in energy use. If you are interested in investing in energy efficient appliances, make sure to research your options thoroughly beforehand, to ensure that you have the best products.

Use Energy Efficient Lighting
There are several ways that people do that unknowingly waste energy, including leaving lights on for prolonged periods. According to the International Dark-Sky Association, about 30% of the light energy that is used in the United States each year is wasted. This is mostly due to lights being used in unnecessary instances. For example, having several lights on in a well-lit indoor area is considered unnecessary for rooms that receive adequate sunlight.

As a result, there are several types of efficient lights for nearly every light bulb. Like appliances, it is important to research before making any decisions. LEDs and compact fluorescents (CFLs) are both well-known efficient lights and can be beneficial when used correctly. Other energy-reducing options include installing light-saving technology, which could include dimmers, motion sensors, or timers.

Renewable energy is a vital resource that can help us become less wasteful and more sustainable with how we live. While it may not be within your immediate budget to switch to renewable energy, there are small ways to reduce your energy use. If there are devices throughout the house that are not in use, turn them off, so they are not using as much energy. For example, shut down your laptop after using it, and unplug it from its charger once it is charged as needed. Leaving electronics plugged in can use excessive energy, and is an easy change to make. Understanding the significance of renewable energy can make it easier to become a more sustainable world.
